I'm a bit nervous about blogging right now. Am at Kings Cross Centre, wasting time while waiting to have dinner with F+S tonight. Tt said I shouldn't log in to anything here in case someone's installed a key logger in these computers. They could very well have done that, because there's absolutely no security on these computers. I just installed chrome for them without any trouble. Usually public computers don't let you install or download anything. Oh well! If this site suddenly changed and became some... I dunno, random site, it means someone took over my account.
I forgot to type an entry last night, so I guess I'll make it up now. It's going to be super short because I only have an hour to do this.

Earlier this month, it was my parents' birthday, and my sister came over from Singapore with her fiance to do some photoshooting and to plan their wedding that's happening early next year. This was my dad's birthday cake from 85 degrees. I forgot what it was, but it had nuts and caramel in it- two things my dad likes.

Went with my sister to this cafe called Blackbird Cafe at Darling Harbour one evening. They have pretty decent food there, though not the cheapest of course, but it's the place where we had the fish and chips and the weird pear pizza. Their interior is very nicely decorated, with a wall of plants and laser beams flashing across the place for added effect. Seems like the "hip" place for youngsters to hang out at (gosh, I sound old).

TNC dessert place. We were craving dessert one time in the city and decided to get some tang yuan. Not the best- it wasn't even chewy!!

The dry peanut one was somewhat better, but I think I can make better ones =D Quite some time ago, tt taught me how to make it like this:
1) Get glutinous rice flour and mix a little hot water, and keep adding the water little by little to make a dough.
2) Roll small balls of crunchy peanut butter in sugar (this will be the filling).
3) Enclose the balls of peanut butter in the dough and boil them in brown sugar water (some people like to boil the sugar water with slices of ginger. I prefer not.)
It's a great recipe for glutinous balls with peanut filling, but I always wonder about the black sesame filling... it'd be nice to have a fail-proof recipe for it...

This was before a photoshoot for my sister. It was my dad's birthday that day and we decided to head to La Perouse, but before that, we had brunch at "Bit But Tong"- my dad's favourite Chinese restaurant in China Town.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
His favourite beef innards flat noodle soup. Some of the stuff in there have a really strange texture... and you don't want to know which part of the cow it belongs to.

I play safe and ordered wanton with hor fun.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
Can't exactly go wrong with wanton unless the ingredients weren't fresh, but usually it's ok.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
I was pretty much gone by the time I finished half the bowl of noodles, but everyone else finished all the other food, including this fried cheong fun.

Almost there!
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
My sister took this photo of us taking a photo of the place. It was extremely beautiful, windy and cold there.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
There was even a shipwreck right at the end of it, but we didn't manage to go to it and took photos from a distance. Did a photoshoot for them nearby, at the flatland with the sea in the background. Photos turned out quite nice, but because the rain was coming in, we only managed to do the photoshoot and had not much time left to do any sightseeing.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
That's icie and me packing up after the photoshoot. Sky was getting dark and we did the last few shots at some ruins.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
Dinner time at Eastwood. It's along the way home, a fast and convenient place to eat at. My brother's suckling pork with rice.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
Char siu and pork belly with rice.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
M wanted to try their lamb hot pot. It's really the best thing to have in winter because it keeps you so warm afterwards, though lamb isn't really my type of food. It has a weird aftertaste...
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
That whole week was basically doing photoshoots for my sister and her fiance at different locations. While icie was of course, the main photographer, most of the places we went to was super windy and he needed someone to hold on to the flash for him (he's broken his flashes quite a few times when the wind blew them over and they smashed to the ground. $150 each time he sends them for repair). It's really quite interesting to go to these different places because I hardly ever explore Sydney. This is one of the locations I found extremely interesting. Abandoned tram stations at Glebe.

The thing is, we couldn't go inside. This was what it was like inside, taken through a crack at the gates, which were chained. Or stuck. There IS one way to get in- through a back window, where one has to climb up crates to get through. Problem was, it was raining that day, so the grounds were muddy. I was wearing boats, so it was ok, but my brother fully stepped into the mud and his whole shoe was completely covered with mud. We had to go through this really narrow alleyway to get to the window too, so we abandoned the idea and decided to do the shoot outside.

The inside looks really spacious and has many trams parked inside. The walls and trams are covered with graffiti. Not just random scribbles that amateur kids do. They look pretty artistic.

From Week 28-30, 2010 |
I WILL go back inside one day. When the ground isn't soft mud, and I'm not carrying all these tripods, cameras and random equipment, I'll climb up that window and go inside. Good thing we didn't waste time trying to go in that day though, because it started to rain heavily not long after, and we had to rush to store all the cameras and stuff before running for shelter.
